Francesco Garbo is an Italian filmmaker currently based in France.
He dedicated the first part of his life to music, studying double bass and electric bass with Alessandro Turchet and being part of bands and orchestras.
After the BA in "Electronic Music" he starts taking the first steps into video art and he gets a MA with honour in "Audiovisual Composition" under the supervision of Paolo Pachini, Nicola Buso and Pietro Polotti at the Conservatory of Trieste. In these years he's part of the collective SINAPTICA, focusing on interactive installations and performing arts.
In 2015, he moves to Berlin where he works as cinematographer for documentaries co-produced by the channels ARTE, ZDF and ORF, such as the award-winning "Free Lunch Society" by Christian Tod, "Fuck Fame" by Robert Cibis and "trustWHO" by Lilian Franck and for the fictional short film “Perghuzat” by Pierluigi Muscolino. In Germany he also founded, together with Pierluigi Muscolino, the independent film production Katzbach Film.
In 2018, he directed his first fictional short film "Stuck", selected in several international festivals, and after directing in Bosnia his first documentary "Ulicama", he moved to Marseille.
In 2020, he co-directed the short film "Lievito Madre" with Pierluigi Muscolino, which was selected in international festivals and included in the AG Kurz 2021 catalog of the best German shorts of the year.
He is currently finishing the two feature documentaries: "End Times", in co-direction with Robert Cibis, co-produced by the German national television ZDF and "Viananda”, in co-direction with Gianmaria Zago.
